Italian Serie A club Roma have announced that Brazilian wing-back Maicon has extended his contract with Roma by a year, with an option of an extra year when his new deal expires in 2016.
The 33-year-old wing-back, who won the treble of UEFA Champions League, Serie A title and Coppa Italia when he was with Inter Milan in 2010, joined Roma in 2013 after making just ten appearances for Manchester City.
A member of the Brazil side humiliated 7-1 by eventual champions Germany in their Fifa World Cup semi-final in July, Maicon has gone on to become a key member of coach Rudi Garcia’s side.
A club statement said: “AS Roma is pleased to announce that Maicon Douglas Sisenando has signed a contract extension with the club. His new deal will run until 30 June 2016 and includes an option for a further season.”
He impressed as Roma finished runners-up to Juventus last season and has also played vital roles in their campaign so far in the 2014-15 season with ‘i Giallorossi’ placed second after five wins in six games- their only defeat coming against the Turin champions.
