Muntari, Honda On Target in Milan’s Win Over Chievo

Sulley Muntari marked his 250th Serie A appearance with a wonderful volley in AC Milan’s 2-0 win over Chievo Verona on Saturday.

Keisuke Honda doubled the Rossoneri’s lead with a curling free-kick from 25 yards, which goalkeeper Francesco Bardi’s outstretched hands could not stop from finding the corner.

The game ended a run of three matches without a win- including defeat at home to Juventus and draws with Empoli and Cesena- for Filippo Inzaghi’s men, who moved fifth on the table on 11 points.

After struggling to convert most of their chances in front of the San Siro crowd, the hosts took the lead in the 55th minute when Muntari’s volley bounced over Bardi. The strike is the Ghanian’s 26th in the Serie A- a haul which stretches from his time with Udinese and Inter Milan.

Chievo wasted a gilt-edged opportunity with a three-on-one break. Dejan Lazarevic, with two men to his right, mishit a pass with an empty goal at his mercy.

Honda’s superb free-kick then hit target just over ten minutes from time. Milan held on to claim their first clean sheet under Inzaghi.

Hellas Verona (7th), who edged Cagliari 1-0 via Panagiotis Tachtsidis’ late strike, and Sampdoria (6th) also have 11 points but with inferior goal difference.

Verona were unlucky not to have had a valid first-half goal counted and also watched two of their second-half attempts come off the woodwork.

Juventus host Roma on Sunday in a meeting between Serie A sides at the top of the table. Both have made a 100% start to the season.
