Barcelona striker Thomas Vermaelen may require surgery on a thigh injury which has delayed his debut for the Catalans.
Barca paid Arsenal £15m for the penmanship of the 29-yearold in August, but is yet to play having suffered an injury in Belgium’s 1-0 World Cup win over Russia in June.
“We are worried for him and the medical staff are evaluating what’s best,” said sports director Andoni Zubizarreta.
“We don’t know if Vermaelen is now going to need surgery. We are studying the situation.”
