Kenyan Distance Runners Fail Drug Tests

Kenyan runners, Viola Chelangat Kimetto and Joyce Jemutai Kiplimo, have been banned for two years after failing drug tests, according to Athletics Kenya.

Both women tested positive for norandrosterone, a metabolite of nandrolone.

Kimetto failed her test at the Macau marathon in December 2013, while Kiplimo’s failed test was taken after the Yangzhou half-marathon in April.

Athletics Kenya said it five other athletes were also under investigation.

It said they had been told to report to its office by Thursday over “particular issues revolving around doping cases” raised by the organisation’s anti-doping unit.

In the meantime, neither of the suspended runners has commented on the test results.

Not less than 40 Kenyan athletes have failed doping tests in the past two years.
