Delegates at the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Yobe on Thursday unanimously endorsed Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam as the candidate to fly the party’s flag at the the state’s 2015 governorship elections, as he went unopposed at the primaries held in Damaturu.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Malam Babagana Tijjani, who spoke to newsmen after the election, said the endorsement came after Gaidam polled a total of 2,219 votes cast to affirm his ticket.
According to him, the ticket was a reward for the governor’s performance in office which had transformed the state to an enviable height in the country.
He however commended the APC members for courage shown in turning out in large numbers to endorse the governor in spite of the security situation in the state.
“Yobe is the number one home of APC in Nigeria, ” he said.
Sen. Ahamed Lawal, representing Yobe North District, who spoke earlier, commended the security agencies, especially the military for repelling insurgents attack on Damaturu.
According to him, the endorsement could not have been possible if not for the effort of the military for securing and ensuring peaceful environment in the state. He also commended the support of the delegates who helped the governor emerge as the flag-bearer in the 2015 general elections.
Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Abubakar Ali, who represented the governor, thanked the members of the party for their support and cooperation.
He assured them that the governor would not let them down in the development of the state.
