AC Milan centre-back Cristian Zapata is likely to miss at least four weeks of action through a foot injury.
The Colombian defender sustained the injury during the 2-1 win over Sassuolo in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday. Subsequent scans have now revealed a fracture in his right foot.
The Rossoneri have yet to place a time frame on the player’s recovery but given the nature of the injury the 28-year-old is expected to be sidelined for up to a month.
The Serie A club said a statement: “AC Milan announces that in the last stages of the game between Milan and Sassuolo, Cristian Zapata, following contact during play, has suffered a bone fracture in his second metatarsal of his right foot.”
Zapata has been a key member of Filippo Inzaghi’s squad and has started eight games this season. Milan are eighth in the Italian league and face Atalanta on Sunday.
