APC Submits Kwankwaso’s Name As Candidate For Kano Central Senatorial Election

Rabiu KwankwasoGovernor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State has finally collected the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to contest the Kano Central senatorial election next month.

The governor had lost the APC presidential primary election to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd) at the party’s national convention in Lagos but after weeks of consultation with his supporters, Kwankwaso heeded their call for him to represent them in the Senate. To this end, the Commissioner of Works, Alhaji Abba K. Yusuf, who had earlier won the ticket, was substituted with that of Kwankwaso.

According to Daily Trust, in line with the guideline provided by the Electoral Act, 2010, as amended, on the substitution of candidates, Yusuf’s name was initially submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as APC candidate for Kano Central.

However, Yusuf’s name was substituted with that of Kwankwaso late Tuesday in an attempt to beat the INEC deadline on substitution of presidential and National Assembly candidates.

Chairman of the party in Kano State Haruna Umar Doguwa in a telephone interview, confirmed the development, saying they adhered strictly to the Electoral Act.

“We have done all what the Electoral Act stipulates on the substitution of candidate. His Excellency is now our candidate for Kano Central Senatorial District”, he said, adding that the substitution was done with the full consent of Yusuf, who voluntarily withdrew from the race.

Kwankwaso will now confront the Senator presently representing Kano Central, Bashir Lado, who is of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the senatorial elections.
