Dolphins Advance in Caf Confederation Cup after Shootout

Goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi emerged the hero of the day as Dolphins advanced into the 1/16 final of the Caf Confederations Cup at the expense of Leones Vegetarianos 5-3 on penalties at the Liberation Stadium, Port-Harcourt.

The Glo Premier League side came into Saturday’s encounter looking to cancel out a 1-goal deficit from the first leg in Equatorial Guinea a fortnight ago.

Emeka Atuloma ensured there were no heartbreaks after 90 minutes as his 26th-minute free-kick kept coach Ndubuisi Nduka’s side in the championship.

Rotimi stopped Guy Yennance’s effort in the penalty shootout and Nigeria Under-20 star Christian Pyagbara converted to seal his side’s passage.

Dolphins will face Tunisian Club Africain in the first round of the competition in the weekend of 13 March.
