President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Nigerians to show gratitude to the nation’s security services, as their activities keep the country united.
“All nations respect their military and their intelligence services because without these people, we wouldn’t have been here. Without these people, there wouldn’t have been any Nigeria,” he said while hosting widows of Nigeria’s fallen heroes.
“What keeps us together as a nation is the activities of these people. I use this opportunity to call on Nigerians to continue to show gratitude and appreciation to our security services” he said.
Jonathan stressed that they deserve the respect of Nigerians as they are ones on the streets making sacrifices while other Nigerians sleep in their houses.
His decision to host the widows, according to Jonathan, was because his government appreciated their husbands who paid the supreme prices while securing the nation.
“Most of you (the widows) would have been surprised that why should the President call us here. It has not happened before. This is the first time that the President would be interacting with the wives of the fallen heroes.
“We appreciate the services of your husbands, your fathers, within the armed forces and other security agencies because we sleep while they are in fears and while protecting the nation some of them paid the supreme sacrifice.
“That is why I personally get worried when some public utterances that are not expected are made of them,” Jonathan said.
My amiable President, we have seen your good works and we will continue to appreciate the armed forces
Yes they deserve all manner of respect, they are making the height of sacrifice to keep us united
I dont know why some people who do not know what these soldiers face talk misguidedly….our troops are doing a great job ….prayer is what we should be helping them with
We should learn to give regard to whom regard is due, the armed forces should be regarded….up GEJ for his relentless effort
RIP to our fallen heroes, starlights guide you paths in the after life, their legacies and effort shall stand in the gap at that point of no hope.
God bless our sensitive President and give comfort to the families of the fallen heroes.
Must President Jonathan tell us to respect security chiefs when he is using them wrongly. Nigerians can not be taken for a ride. Enough is Enough !
I don’t know about ohters out there. But i’ve always admired our military forces, now the challenges just got huge and i belief they are equal to what ever task the may arise.

Goodluck Jonathan became President of Nigeria at a very critical and challenging moment. Since taking office, he has implemented a process of overhaul and renewal of personnel and systems in the armed forces, security agencies and police as Nigeria’s military looks to meet the challenge of the new, unconventional and asymmetric challenges it now faces in the North East.
Security agencies have also improved preventative measures, stopping many attacks that could have claimed unprecedented numbers of casualties. Jonathan is working!
As a result of the anti-terror measures ordered by President Jonathan, the Nigerian Army is now better equipped, better trained, and better resourced than at any other time in Nigeria’s history. Let’s give him our support!
