Towards ensuring violence-free elections, all registered political parties in Zamfara State have signed a peace pact at the state Police headquarters at the weekend.
The signing was supervised by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 10, Alhaji Bala Hassan, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Olufemi David, and all heads of security agencies in the state.
The event also witnessed the presence of the state governor and APC gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, and the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Mamuda Aliyu Shinkafi.
While addressing the gathering, AIG Hassan disclosed that the police have the responsibility of enforcing law and order and that the task should be considered as a collective responsibility.
He noted that politicians were an integral part of the maintenance of peace during election processes as they virtually have control over their teeming supporters.
The police boss added that the nation was passing through a very crucial time that demands concerted actions and prayers for the country to survive the impending political obstacles threatening the socio-economic survival of the country.
It was learnt that all the political parties’ representatives in their submissions, unanimously agreed to observe and comply with all the peace agreements as contained in the pact document, aimed at facilitating peaceful electoral activities and perfect understanding between the parties before, during and after the elections.
