The Adamawa state House of Assembly has suspended five of the nine lawmakers that plotted the impeachment of the Speaker, Umaru Fintiri, at a parallel sitting last Tuesday.
Members affected by the suspension were the factional Speaker, Jerry Kumdisi, Simon Isa, Wale Fwa, Salihu Kabilo and Abuzarri Ribadu.
Sequel to the suspension, the House had last week declared the seats of three other members of the anti-Fintiri lawmakers vacant for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party and contesting elections on the platforms of All Progresives Congress and Peoples Democratic Movement.
The House also mandated the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct by-election into the vacant seats.
At a plenary sitting presided over by the speaker on Monday, the House adopted the report of a committee that was constituted to investigate the purported impeachment of Mr. Fintiri by the nine lawmakers at the Government House, Yola.
Subsequently, the members were suspended till June 8 when the tenure of the 7th assembly will elapse.
The speaker also constituted a five man investigation committee, chaired by the member representing Uba Gaya constituency, to investigate a N2billion agric loan collected by the state government on behalf of Adamawa farmers.
The loan was allegedly diverted to other uses.
The speaker adjourned sitting till May 18 with a call on security agencies to protect the House and all properties of the assembly while they are on recess
