Eleven persons were killed, Monday, as two suicide bombers hit Potiskum, the commercial town of Yobe State. Eight others were injured in the attack.
Thisday reports that the first attack was launched at the vigilante group office located at Dorowa area.
Citing an eyewitness, Abubakar Isa, the news platform said that a suicide bomber gained access to the office and detonated the Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) killing seven people on the spot with himself.
”A young man came to our office and we insisted that anybody that we would allow to enter must be searched and when he pretended to be opening the bag, he detonated an explosive device,” Isa said.
According to him, the explosion killed one of the commanders of the vigilante group in the town.
“When everyone was still shell-shocked by the attack, another explosion happened five minutes later at a drinking joint in the same vicinity,” the eyewitness added.
He said that three persons including the bomber were killed in the explosion.
A Thisday source at the General Hospital, Potiskum, said eleven corpses were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
The attack came just 24 hours after Boko Haram militants attacked Babbangida, the headquarters of Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe state.
Attacks by the Islamist sect have intensified since President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in. There seems to be more focus on Yobe by the terrorists now, especially since the military command has been moved to Maiduguri, Borno State for better efficiency in the fight against the terrorists. The work of the Multi-National Joint Task Force had also been in and around Borno, the epicenter of the insurgency.
More attacks may hit Yobe if actions are not taken to disrupt the plans of the terrorits. President Buhari had expressed the commitment of his government to ending insurgency.
