Senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial district Ben Murray-Bruce has called on the government at all levels to invest more in education. According to him, if the country had spent billions educating all Nigerians in the 1980’s, trillions spent in fighting terrorists today would be tailored towards developing the country.

“Study Nigeria’s state budgets. You’ll discover that states that weren’t spending on education are today spending on security,” he wrote on microblogging site Twitter.

“The more Nigeria spends on education the less we spend on insecurity. If we build schools today, we wont build prisons tomorrow.

“When we waste the minds of less privileged youth, they will waste the wealth of privileged youths. We must ensure all children are educated. Nigeria must declare an emergency in education. No school must be without teachers.

“Our national security is tied to educating our youths. We have an over bloated civil service, yet we have schools without teachers. Problem has met solution. Send them to teach!” he advised.

He called on the elites in the society to focus on developing education in their places of origin.
