About 15,000 teachers from three South Western states working under a Federal Teachers’ Scheme yesterday protested in Ibadan over non-payment of their salaries by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

The teachers, who marched through Dugbe, Agodi Gate and later came to the State Secretariat of the Correspondents’ Chapel (NUJ) Mokola roundabout, displayed placards with various inscriptions pleading with UBEC to pay the backlog of salary arrears.

Some of their placards read, “FG, please pay us our 11-14 months arrears; Please, Mr. President, rescue us; UBEC, we are tired of this; Mr. President, please come to our aid.”

The protest was led by Miss Lawal Bukola and Mr. Obayomi Gideon. They complained that the commission was owing them about N2. 6 billion.
