The Governor of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has been advised to suspend his administration’s plan to construct a cargo airport in Lafia, the state capital.
The Organised labour in Nasarawa, which gave the advice at the end of its State Administrative Council (SAC) meeting in Lafia yesterday, said there were other pressing matters of importance to the people than a cargo airport project.
The communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and jointly signed by Abdullahi Adeka, Sule Ode Usman and Ahmed Mohammed said “the airport project is at the expense of other current predicament which in it stead, the governor should revive the state owned transport service by constructing a modern motor park and purchase sound vehicles which shall benefit the common man in the state”.
The organized labour also said “Based on the pronouncement made by the governor that bail-out funds has been accessed, the organized labour is urging the governor to disburse that of the state for the purpose it is meant for.
“We also call on the governor to urgently disburse the funds remitted by the contractor handling the 500 housing project to the beneficiaries to enable them complete some of the uncompleted aspects of the work in the project”.
The communiqué continued by calling on the state government to, as a matter of urgency, implement all issues as contained in various agreements reached between it and organized labour even as it further called for the reconstitution of the state civil service commission.
“While we call on government to expedite action on resolving the lingering problems the table payment, the result of the just concluded staff screening exercise should be made public within the shortest possible time”, the organized labour demanded.
