Group Vows Grave Consequences If Anything Untoward Happens To Ekweremadu

Ike EkweremaduOver a week after the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu allegedly escaped an assassination attempt in Abuja, a socio-political organization based in Enugu State, Greater Awgu Forum, GAF, has warned that it will not fold its arms and watch should any harm befall Ekweremadu.

The group expressed outrage that since Ekweremadu, who is Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament emerged as Deputy President of the Senate last June, the polity has been unnecessarily heated, with the climax being the latest attempt on his life.

The GAF told South-East Voice, led by the National President, Chiedozie Ogbonnia, Secretary, Cletus Akalusi and Ude Okechukwu, Publicity Secretary, that “Despite the fact that Ekweremadu emerged constitutionally, transparently and credibly, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has neither hidden their hatred for the Senator nor their declared determination to remove him.

“The APC has also deployed various means including unsubstantiated allegation of forgery of Senate Standing Rule 2015, lawsuit etc in a desperate bid to dislodge him. Some APC Senators demonstrated the height of spite, hate and parliamentary irresponsibility when they staged a walkout on Senator Ekweremadu while he presided over the Senate on Wednesday, November 11.

“They also issued a statement where they vowed to ‘cease to attend any sitting presided over by the PDP in an APC majority chamber of the eight Senate’.

“Ekweremadu was elected with an overwhelming mandate of his people and enjoys the confidence of his colleagues, on account of which he was re-elected the Deputy President of the Senate for a record third time. Eliminating Ekweremadu by ‘all means’, including assassination, is grave and counter-productive as it holds ramifying consequences for Nigeria’s political stability and corporate existence.

“We urge the Federal Government and its security agencies, especially the Police and the DSS, to immediately unravel those behind the dastardly act as we will not accept the traditional lame-duck and lackadaisical approach to investigations in an assassination attempt on Ekweremadu”.
