Andrea Constand, 42 is the new famous face behind the arrest of veteran Black-American comedian Bill Cosby.
She’s the woman whose sexual assault accusation was the only to fall under the statute of limitations, and led to Bill Cosby’s astounding arrest on December 30.
Since Cosby’s arrest seem to be gaining more attention, there’s more that needs to be known about Andrea.
Here are five things to know about her.
1.) She was a high-ranking official at Temple University
Bill met Andrea in 2002 when she was the director of operations for the women’s basketball team at Temple University in Philadelphia. The comedian is an alum of Temple University, and he became her mentor and close close friend prior to the alleged assault.
2.) She didn’t tell anyone about her alleged assault for a year
After moving back to her native Canada, Andrea’s mother noticed that her daughter had been acting strangely, unlike the bubbly woman she normally was. After about a year, Andrea finally confessed to her mother what allegedly happened between her and Bill, and her mom reported it to authorities. Apparently, Bill tried to say that their alleged encounter was consensual, but as of 2015, many are doubting that’s the case. In 2005, there was reportedly “insufficient credible and admissible evidence” to pursue the case.
3.) She was a youth basketball star
Andrea’s early career as director of operations for the Temple University women’s basketball was sparked by her own true love: the game of basketball itself. As a girl, Andrea was heavily involved in the sport, and became so great that she often traveled and played in tournaments.
4.) Andrea is a lesbian
In her court filings from summer 2015, Andrea said that Bill was “narcissist,” who missed clues that she was gay. At the time of her alleged assault, she was in a committed relationship with a woman, and did not have consensual sex with the comedian, as he’s arguing.
5.) She moved to Canada
Andrea now lives in her native Canada, in Ontario, and no longer works in academia or sports. After serving as the director of operations for Temple’s women’s basketball team from 2001-2004, and following her alleged assault, Andrea moved back to Canada and began studying massage therapy. She now works as a successful massage therapist.
