Royal Dutch Shell, the parent company of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) of Nigeria, has announced some 10,000 staff and direct contractor jobs’ cut across its global companies in 2016.
The CEO of Royal Dutch Shell, Ben van Beurden, who made the disclosure in a webcast on its 2015 fourth quarter and full year results on Thursday, said the move was part of holistic changes the company was undertaking to restructure and refocus its operations in 2016.
Beurden further said the company has exited the Bab sour gas project in Abu Dhabi, and is postponing final investment decisions on LNG Canada and Bonga South West in deep water Nigeria in 2016.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the SPDC, Precious Okolobo, declined comments on the number of workers to be affected in Nigeria in the downsizing exercise.
