The Benue State Government on Friday commenced construction work on both rural and urban road projects to ensure free-flow of traffic in Makurdi metropolis.
Governor Samuel Ortom told reporters of the development during the official flag off of the Mobile Police Barrack road in Makurdi and the Origbo-Gbajimba rural roads in Guma Local Government Area of the State.
According to the Governor, the project when completed, would stimulate economic activities in rural communities.
He, however, urged contractors handling the two road projects to stick to the contract agreement and deliver the work on schedule, stressing that no member of his administration, including himself, would demand for kick-backs.
Governor Ortom expressed optimism that the road, when completed, would ease traffic congestion in the city centre as well as help farmers freely move their farm produce.
Earlier, the contractor promised to deliver the projects five months ahead of the scheduled date of delivery.
Our correspondent reports that the projects were initiated by the immediate past administration in in the state, but were abandoned.
