Rescuers poured about 26 gallons of water into a thirsty elephant’s trunk after the large animal became stuck in a muddy well.
The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Isiolo, Kenya, posted a video to Facebook showing the dehydrated elephant being given water poured into its trunk after the mammal was trapped overnight in a muddy well at a Northern Rangelands Trust community conservancy.
The Facebook post said Lewa Wildlife Conservancy rescuers were assisted by the Northern Rangelands Trust, Save the Elephants and members of the public. Rescuers said the elephant was dehydrated when they arrived and drank about 26 gallons of water before volunteers were able to pull him from the well using three cars.
The elephant did not appear to have incurred any serious injuries during its ordeal and was able to walk away from the scene after being rescued, the conservancy said.
