Withdraw Religious Preaching Bill, Zaria CAN Urges El-Rufa’i

Mallam-Nasir-El-RufaiThe Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Zaria branch yesterday reiterated its call on the Kaduna state Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufa’I, to withdraw his proposed religious bill before the state House of Assembly for the sake of peace in the state.
The CAN chairman in Zaria, Reverend Peter Giwa, who made the call in a brief chat with Daily Trust, maintained that the bill that intended to regulate religious preaching in the state could lead to religious crisis.
“After our state meeting, we came back to tell our people here in Zaria the outcome. We compared this bill with Nigeria’s constitution and we found that the bill is against the constitution. This is why we are calling on the state governor to have a rethink and withdraw this bill.
“We should remember where we are coming from, especially the incessant crises that the state witnessed. Therefore, we shouldn’t do anything that would take us back to those crises”, Giwa said.
