Malcolm Jabbar Bryant from Baltimore was finally set free after her had spent over 16 years in prison. His release was due to DNA evidence which recently surfaced and proved that he did not commit the crime.

Bryant was convicted in 1998 on the account of a single eye witness who claimed that he was the man that stabbed a 16 year old girl named Toni Bullock. Toni Bullock died of stab wounds in November 20,1998. Bryant’s family never believed that he committed the crime as the continued to do all sorts of appeals but none worked until now.
Michele Nethercott, of the University of Baltimore’s Innocence Project, took up his case. They asked the court to allow them test the fingernail clippings and T-shirt’s DNA and the court granted their request. They found out that the DNA on the fingernail and T-shirt did not match with Bryant’s DNA. The court immediately asked for another hearing of the case. After spending 17 years in jail, he was finally set free. It was a very emotional moment for him and his family.
