The Borno state government has ordered the probing of alleged diversion of large quantities of rice meant for feeding internally displaced persons in the state.
The order was disclosed on Saturday by the Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy to the governor, Mallam Isa Gusau who said in a statement that the governor gave the directive, while hosting heads of security agencies and members of the State Executive Council to a Ramadan breakfast at the Government House in Maiduguri.
The rice supplied by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for the feeding of the IDPs in the state, was allegedly diverted by some government officials. The stealing of food and materials meant for Internally displaced persons is rampant in many camps and despite allegations, authorities largely turn a blind eye to the reports.
