The sum of N3million has been refunded to each aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who paid N16 million for the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms for the September 10 governorship election in Edo State.
The Edo PDP spokesman, Chris Nehikhare, made the disclosure on Saturday.
Many aspirants had complained about the high cost of the forms, prompting the party to reduce the cost by N3million
Mr. Nehikhare said the party met and reduced the fee for the expression of interest and actual governorship forms from N16 million to N13 million, with N10m being for the form, N1m for expression of interest, and N2m for administrative charges.
In a related development, the Edo PDP held a successful ward and local government congresses to elect the special delegates that will elect its flag bearer in the forthcoming governorship election.
Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, chaired the committee that supervised the congresses.
Also, the party has concluded the screening of its aspirants that are contesting its primary election scheduled to hold tomorrow, Monday, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the state capital.
The primary election is scheduled to hold under the chairmanship of Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.
The race for the Edo PDP governorship ticket is between Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Solomon Edebiri and Mathew Iduoriyekemwen.
