Comrade Austin Chilakpu, Imo State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has declared that Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha does not have the power to determine working days with regards to the Nigeria constitution.
On Friday, governor Okorocha disclosed to journalists that the state executive council was considering reducing the working days of civil servants in the state to 3 days, in order to grant them the opportunity of engaging in other businesses to earn extra income.

Chilakpu in his reaction to this said the slashing of the constitutionally prescribed working days was beyond the powers of any state government.
According to him, the International Labour Organization has prescribed 40 working
Hours from Monday to Friday which is what the Nigeria constitution has adopted, and as such could not be altered by the Imo State Governor.
Chilakpu further stressed that the Imo State government was trying to do was to subvert the laws of the country, stating that public holidays recognised by the Federal Government are listed in the calendar.
