A former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.), has called on all Nigerians, irrespective of religion and ethnicity, to promote peaceful co-existence.
He made the call during the unveiling of a cancer screening centre built by Raise Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, founded by the wife of the Niger State governor, Dr. Amina Sani Bello, yesterday in Minna, the state capital.
According to the former Head of State, there was no alternative to peace in Nigeria.
Mr. Abubakar, who chairs the National Peace Committee, stressed that peace was fundamental to the development of any society.
“Where ever we are, we must strive to maintain peace because if there is no peace Nigeria will not exist”, he said.
He also urged leaders in the country to create platforms for peaceful discussions with a view of solving crises confronting the nation.
