Massive Earthquake hits the US

A massive earthquake has hit at least six states hit the United States. It is one of the biggest tremors felt in Oklahoma on record.

People were just waking up when the 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck Pawnee in central Oklahoma.

The massive quake was felt 800 miles away in Chicago with reports that houses had collapsed.

The 5.6 quake caused damage to buildings in Oklahoma

Residents in Kansas City, Missouri, Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Norman, Oklahoma also reported feeling the earthquake at around 7.05am local time.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said: “There has been a very substantial earthquake with aftershocks going on for several minutes.”

Residents reported feeling tremors lasting for around 20 seconds each as aftershocks measuring 3.6 and 2.9 battered the region.

It’s believed the earthquake is one of the strongest to hit Oklahoma ever, matching the state’s 2011 record.

Residents reported waking up to pictures falling off walls and beds rocking as a bank building was destroyed and properties ruined.
