The Delta State Police Command on Tuesday arrested some members of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Asaba, Delta State, following a violent clash that ensued between two factions of the party at their secretariat.
The party had in recent times been engulfed in leadership conflict with a faction loyal to Olorogun O’Tega Emerhor and the other loyal to a Second Republic senator, Spanner Okpozo.
According to reports, faction loyal to Senator Okpozo, with the name Elders and Leaders of APC had inaugurated a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the party after the State High Court sacked the Prophet Jones Erue-led executive that was elected at a congress held in the premises of a church in 2014, following a suit filed by Chief Adolor Okotie-Eboh.
Eyewitnesses accounts that hoodlums brandishing dangerous weapons stormed the party secretariat and allegedly molested members of the state disciplinary committee who were meeting to consider a report of anti-party activities against some members.
Heavily armed policemen were immediately dispatched to the scene as reports of gun shots were heard factions. Some of the thugs were arrested and taken to the police headquarters for questioning.
It was learnt that the policemen sealed up the secretariat to avoid further clashes.
