Egyptian Court Reverses Death Sentence On Former President, Mohamed Morsi

An Egyptian court of cassation has overturned a death sentence on former President Mohamed Morsi. Morsi is Egypt’s first democratically elected President and was deposed in 2013 after serving just one year of his 4-year term.

The leaders of the coup which overthrew him then outlawed the Muslim Brotherhood to which Morsi belonged and he was soon sentenced to death.

However, a court judgment today ordered Morsi’s retrial, setting aside the death sentence.
