PAYMASTER’S DEATH: Police Arrest 11, Parade 15 Others

Eleven persons have been arrested by police in Ekiti State in connection with the gruesome murder of the command’s paymaster, Mr Idowu Taiwo .

Also, a man, identified as Olalekan Ezekiel was arrested for allegedly posing as a police inspector.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Wilson Inalegwu, who stated this while parading 26 suspects to joyrnalists at the state police headquarters in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, said that his men swiftly swung into action by extending their intelligence gathering tentacles to Kano and Kaduna States, where some suspects were apprehended.

Apart from Mr. Idowu, who was killed last December, the suspects were also said to be responsible for the death one Engineer Kunle Enisan and kidnap of a Turkey – based Emmanuel Adeleke

Inalegwu said, Ezekiel, was arrested on February 20 on Esure-Awo road when intercepted by a patrol team and later
confessed that he was not a police officer after thorough investigation.

He disclosed that one unregistered red colour Honda Motorcycle was recovered from him saying that the suspect will be prosecuted soon.

A female student of the College of Science and Technology, Ijero Ekiti, Busayo Kayode, according to the Commissioner was arrested for allegedly tricking his bosom friends to the bush where they were gang-raped by ten men, with sinister intention to initiate them into an occult group.

Busayo was accused of specializing in recruiting vulnerable girls for the
gang to rape in turns, particularly members of Ave Cult Group.

The Police Commissioner added that he had established a ‘crime Hot Spot Policing Squad’ to smash criminals that have taken Atikankan, Adebayo , Ajilosun and Ojumose areas of Ado Ekiti, as safe havens.

Inalegwu disclosed that the command is partnering with sister Commands in Ondo , Kwara, Kogi and Osun States to curtail activities of kidnappers in the zone.

He said his men is also doing the mapping for strategic operation ,
the thick forests along Ikere-Igbara Odo-Ogotun and Ise-Emure axes where kidnap victims were being regularly kept in Ekiti to reduce this nefarious act .

“We are also enlisting the services of local hunters and vigilante groups for constant patrol of these deadly forests, so that when we occupy their hideouts, they will have no option than to run”, he said.

On the rampaging herdsmen killing the people, Inalegwu said: “We have
also made very landmark achievement in the area to ensuring peaceful
co-existence among the herdsmen and farmers.

“We are forming various groups selected from all these stakeholders
so that all of us can be on the same page to be able to checkmate
incessant crisis among them and ensure that Ekiti is in peace”.

Inalegwu commended the state government over quick intervention in
Ayede/Itaji Communal clash and for clearing the road necks in all the
16 local governments, saying the measures had helped his men in
carrying out their statutory operational duties.
