A 57-year-old petty trader, Aminu Ibrahim, was on Tuesday brought before a Jos Upper Area Court over the alleged rape of a minor.
He was also charged with criminal intimidation.
According to the charge read out by the Prosecutor, L.C. Ocho, the incident happened on April 26 at about 6:00 p.m.
Ocho told the court that Mrs Mariam Abdullahi, the victim’s mother, reported to the police that her nine-year-old daughter (name withheld), had been raped.
Abdullahi told the police that her daughter was lured by the accused into his provision shop and raped, after giving her a pack of Viju milk.
Abdullahi said that Ibrahim also threatened to kill her daughter if she told anyone what transpired between them.
Mr D.A. Audu, counsel the accused, pleaded for his bail, but the Magistrate, Mr Yahaya Mohammed, denied him bail and ordered his remand in police custody.
The Magistrate adjourned the case to June 1, for further investigation.
