 Students At Lagos Medical School Asked To Go Home After COVID-19 Outbreak

The Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) has shut down its campus after some students and officials contracted the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

In a statement by the Coordinator, Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations, Lagos State University, Mr. Ademola Adekoya noted that three medical students tested positive for the virus.

He stated that the three medical students had been isolated and given treatment packs.

He also revealed that their roommates were being tested while contact tracing had begun for all those they came into contact with recently.

The statement reads: “The Management of Lagos State University wishes to inform staff, students and the general public that three students of the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) have tested positive for Covid-19 leading the College to immediately close down all her hostel facilities.

“Roommates of the three students who tested positive and their associates are being tested;

“The College already isolated the affected three students and has commenced contact tracing of all affected students,” the statement partly read.

The institution mandated every student to evacuate the hostel and isolate themselves at home for two weeks effective from Friday.

it added that a communique containing modalities for school resumption will be circulated after the two-week isolation period.
