Abducted Kagara School Children, Others May Regain Freedom Today — Gumi
Sheikh Gumi

Popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Gumi has stated that the abducted students and teachers of Government Science College Kagara may regain freedom today.

Gumi, who has been in talks with the bandits, made this known in an interview on Saturday, with Sunday PUNCH.

The cleric expressed that there is ongoing negotiation between the bandits and government, he, however, pointed out the negotiation was slowed down due to logistics.

Gumi reportedly said, “What I hear from (our contact) is that they are still negotiating to release them (schoolchildren and staff members) and hopefully, hopefully, we will get them tomorrow (Sunday), hopefully.”

During the interview, the cleric expressed that it has been difficult to identify the group that carried out the kidnapping.

He also debunked rumours of payment of ransoms by government for the abductees.

According to Gumi, the bandits are mainly asking the state to release their comrades in the custody of security agencies.
