Senate President Ahmad Lawan has reiterated his decision not to appeal the court judgment, which voided his nomination as All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Yobe North in the 2023 election.
A Federal High Court in Yobe had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Bashir Machina as the authentic candidate for the senatorial district.
Lawan claimed he had opted against filing an appeal after accepting the court’s ruling but a rumour on the internet stated that the Senate President changed his mind about choosing not to appeal the ruling.

However, on Saturday, Lawan referred to the news as a complete fabrication and encouraged the public to dismiss it.
“For the umpteenth time, we want to emphasize that the Senate President has no intention to appeal against the court judgement.
“If anybody is dissatisfied and decides to challenge the verdict of the court, it has nothing to do with the Senate President.
“The Senate President has made his own position public and has since moved on. He is a man of his words,” Lawan said in a statement by his media aide, Ola Awoniyi.
